2017 Community Investments (sponsorships, donations, volunteering)
This year saw the launch of our new Community Investment Program (CIP). For many years the Credit Union has been donating time, money, and various resources to all sorts of community events and projects – big and small. The CIP is an attempt to open up these investments to the entire community, and create more awareness of potential grants, sponsorships and donations from gfcu. We know there are a lot of creative and capable people out there who have the ability to make a positive impact in our community – and we hope the launch of this new program can encourage that to happen more often.
Through this program in 2017, gfcu managed to return over $40,000 to community initiatives, as well as other resources and volunteer time. It would be too much to highlight every last item in this newsletter, but we would like to recap some of the exciting and positive things we were a part of this year.
- One of the first events in 2017 was Family Day. An event organized by the City of Grand Forks, but carried out by the community and our supportive downtown business core. Aside from financial sponsorship, we saw our parking lot turned into a road hockey rink, and we kept the people warm with complimentary hot chocolate.
- Moving into the summer, we were happy to provide support for the GFI (who has been making some tremendous strides in recent years), Park in the Park Car Show (initially started by one of our very own), and the Grand Forks Flying Association COPA who organized the fantastic Snowbirds Airshow.
- To close out the year, gfcu donated $3000 to the Boundary Community Food Bank. This donation comes indirectly from our staff and vendors. A number of years ago, staff came together to realize that the annual gifts they received from gfcu would be better used as a collective donation to our community.
